ᐅ Operating Costs: Ceramic Cooktop vs. Induction

Good evening,

I would like to ask for your combined knowledge and calculation skills.

Recently, there was a discussion within my family about the energy consumption costs of ceramic cooktops versus induction. One family member claimed that the savings from using induction instead of ceramic cooktops amount to several hundred euros. Savings, maybe – I appreciate my ceramic cooktop because it continues to radiate heat even after the power is turned off, which induction does not – but is it really that much?

What do you think? Assuming new AAA-rated devices are purchased in both cases and cooking is done daily, who saves how much on electricity costs?

Thank you and best regards, Bauexperte

Regarding the car comparison, I’ll just say I drive a 16-year-old Passat, which recently passed its vehicle inspection without any defects and will accompany me for at least another two years because it has always been reliable so far.

Although this is off-topic, I’m sure Bauexperte will allow it.
Our “baby” is now 10 years old; we ordered it brand new back then and cannot part with it. I hope we have many more happy years and kilometers (miles) ahead. 😎

For your specialty pots, you can still use an external electric cooktop

The portable single burner, of course, also heats via induction.

I also don’t understand why someone would buy a cooktop with outdated technology just because of their old pots. Cleaning is not only easier because it reacts faster and prevents soups from boiling over as often, but nothing also burns or sticks since the glass surface doesn’t get nearly as hot. Even after 5 years, an induction cooktop with minimal care still looks almost like new.

By the way, I know someone who still had 30-year-old AMC pots from “back in the day” that were very expensive at the time and therefore couldn’t be thrown away... Today, she’s happy with induction cooking and her small set of pots.

BTW, AMC pots can still be sold on [ ] and often at least a starter set of new pots can be purchased in return...

The single portable hob also uses induction heating, of course.

No, why? That would be redundant and not feasible for the reason I mentioned.
