Good evening everyone,

I wanted to ask how much construction waste you had when your prefabricated house was assembled. We are supposed to provide a container during the week the house is delivered. Since we have a trailer ourselves, we thought about saving money by possibly taking the waste ourselves to the recycling center.

However, no one can tell us how much waste and what type of waste to expect. If anyone who has already gone through this could give me a rough idea of whether it’s worth it or not, I would appreciate it. The container is estimated to cost around €800 (about $860), while taking it ourselves to the recycling center would be practically negligible. I also can’t really imagine what kind of waste is generated during this phase.

I would be grateful for any advice.

Best regards

Does your recycling center also charge nothing for larger quantities?
How sorted does the waste need to be?

Try asking.

They told me that if it is clearly separated, like wood, cardboard, etc., then it is free. Construction debris, for example, is not accepted.

Question about how the materials are packaged and what is taken back, for example, protective tarps.

We had solid wood walls stacked on top of each other. This resulted in a large amount of scrap wood.

The mixed waste came afterwards. I estimate about 3 roll-off containers until move-in.

This will definitely be construction debris... you won’t be able to sort it that way at all. For our house, the scaffolding was removed today, and up to this point we have filled 3 large containers.

In our case, everything was picked up again in the evening. In the end, we only had one yellow bag with plastic sheets and some plastics...
