ᐅ Construction dust during home building?

The question is already stated above. Our electricians are currently chasing the cables. It’s incredible how much construction dust is generated. How do you handle this? Do you vacuum the shell construction from time to time?

I’m looking forward to hearing about your experiences and appreciate any tips!

I recommend that everyone double-check all water pipes after the plasterers have finished and before the screed is installed.... Our contractors did a good job cleaning everything up, BUT unfortunately, they accidentally damaged the pipes lying on the floor (a coupling came apart)... if we hadn’t noticed that – I don’t even want to think about it – it was the main line to the sink...

We did not clean during the construction at all. If a trade did sloppy work, they simply did not get paid until it was fixed.
According to VOB (German construction contract procedures), it is at least the contractor’s responsibility to keep the site tidy. A broom-clean state is acceptable. This should also be standard “site etiquette,” regardless of which legal framework applies.

If the electrician generates dust while chasing walls, they must remove it. Maybe next time they’ll be smart enough to connect a dust extraction system.
If a plasterer splashes the floor, they have to clean it up. Who saved themselves the effort of proper covering in that case?

In general, I recommend that every homeowner buy an industrial vacuum cleaner. Also get the appropriate dust bags for dusty jobs. Household vacuum cleaners won’t last long under those conditions.

So it seems that most people here have good experiences or are not overly particular.

The electricians probably did a quick sweep as well, but now there is dust everywhere, including on the window frames and so on.

And I don’t really believe that the tradespeople clean thoroughly. Much of the construction dust, in particular, will simply remain under the floor structure...

That’s why I decided to do the screed myself first...

How are you supposed to get the contractors to clean up properly?

It's my first time building, but the cliché "after me, the flood" really seems to apply to construction sites.
When cleaning, please use the right equipment. Fine dust has become an important issue even on construction sites. If you are vacuuming, try to use a vacuum with the appropriate filter class whenever possible. There is a guidance document from the BG on this, if I remember correctly. Constantly sweeping can be counterproductive for air quality and occupational safety because the fine dust doesn’t settle after a few hours but remains in the air for days.

I also consider sweeping to be pointless or even unhealthy. It stirs up more dust than it removes.

I have an industrial vacuum cleaner and will try using that.

Can the dust actually embed itself into glass or something and cause damage?
