Hello dear members,

I want to build a house this year. I have reserved a plot of land. Recently, I visited a builder. Since I didn’t have any plans yet, he showed me a floor plan that I really liked, and he also gave me a copy of the drawing to take home. However, I couldn’t come to an agreement with the builder because he only offered a turnkey solution. He also told me that I was not allowed to take the drawing to another company, and if I did, he would find out. Is that true, or can I simply redraw the plan?

Best regards

As long as the drawing does not represent a protected building – like many of Gehry’s designs – he can’t do anything to you. The wheel cannot be reinvented, especially with standard designs.

The drawing also states: Original design protected by copyright.
What does this mean for me?
Thank you for your answers.

You shouldn’t shop around with the original design elsewhere. Copying it is allowed.
I also can’t imagine that the house plan will be that unique.
Those you will build with later will have to create a new design anyway. You can always incorporate ideas from other sources 😉
