Hello everyone,

Construction has finally started at our site.
I would like to share my experiences, concerns, and questions about the house building process here to get feedback from experienced people.
So, it’s kind of a small building diary.

The earthworks have been completed with the delivery of 340 tons of sand for backfilling, and the trenches for the strip foundation have also been prepared.
The steel mesh for reinforcement is ready on site.

Now the date for the slab foundation is set.
Pipes for wastewater and the multi-utility connection need to be installed, the foundation grounding conductor has to be laid, a drainage membrane has to be placed, reinforcement tied, and formwork set up.
Is all of this achievable in one day, including the concrete delivery?

Before I provide more details, I’d like to hear your opinions.

Best regards

Does anyone know what minimum temperatures are required for pouring concrete?

In general, the temperature should remain above 5°C (41°F) for several days. Otherwise, additives can be used, but that would, of course, need to be specified. What does it mean that the foundation is 90% poured? Are the remaining 10% supposed to be poured on top later? That seems a bit odd to me. If I were you, I would consider consulting an expert to supervise the process. I’m not very familiar with this, but it doesn’t seem entirely proper to me (though there are people in the forum who know more about this).

Are you building with a general contractor, a construction manager, an architect, or someone else?

Where did you get that from?

You can even pour concrete in freezing conditions. It depends on so many factors that making such a blanket statement is questionable.

I’m just wondering how a connection between the 90% already poured concrete and the remaining concrete can be created to satisfy a structural engineer sufficiently? They haven’t even inserted any rebar to establish this necessary connection. In my opinion, gravity and friction alone are not enough. Layperson’s opinion: This won’t work, everything will have to be taken back to square one (dismantling).

This cannot be answered in a general way.
The concrete must have a minimum temperature of +5°C (41°F) at placement when the air temperature at the site is at least +3°C (37°F). If the air temperature at the site is below +3°C (37°F), the concrete must have a minimum temperature of +10°C (50°F) at placement.
There are many other conditions as well.
I will send you a link by PM.
