Hello,

we have purchased a plot of land near Stuttgart and submitted a building permit application. Unfortunately, the cost estimates keep increasing.
The project is a single-family house with a living area of 250 m² (2690 sq ft), including a double garage and basement, KfW40+ standard.

Can anyone recommend a construction company in the greater Stuttgart area?

Thanks in advance!

  • Hauser was by far the cheapest in comparison. This is also noticeable in the construction. Thin expanded clay walls with ETICS.

Thank you very much, this is a very good summary, which we mostly agree with except for the Hauser point. About five years ago, we chose Hauser and have never regretted it. Above all, we really can’t relate to the comment "which is also noticeable in the construction." The construction was excellent apart from minor details, although of course we lack direct comparison. Yes, if you don’t like ETICS, then it’s not for you, but for us personally, the overall concept with a good price/performance ratio was very convincing 🙂

Hauser was almost $100,000 cheaper compared to the others. We had also inquired with Lechner Massivhaus, who also build with prefabricated walls. The savings of $100,000 had to come from somewhere. We did not want external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS), so Hauser was already out of the running.

I always request the garage as a separately listed option, at least if it isn’t architecturally integrated (to keep comparisons clear, since it is usually an add-on). Also, in my view, it’s usually not worth making a big deal about. Its purpose is to be a basket for the metal pet and not to spoil the overall appearance. My cars don’t wear Prada (and have to make do with the small side table). If I were an influencer and they contributed significantly to the household income, I’d be open to discussion – but not before that.
Of course, it was listed separately. The price is slightly higher than for a prefabricated garage.

Stone by stone or as wall panels? – Expanded clay should meet the Building Energy Act / EH55 standards without external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS). Not everyone likes ETICS, and personally, I don’t consider it compatible with the QNG standard.
The house is built with prefabricated walls made of poured expanded clay. 14cm (5.5 inches) Liapor + 19cm (7.5 inches) polystyrene. Only with Lechner solid house will this work without ETICS, and alternatively with expanded glass, which allows building somewhat thinner.

Does Hauser build exclusively with expanded clay and ETICS? Even for the KfW 55 standard?

Our ranking:

  • AWS
  • U-Haus
  • Fermo
  • Bauart
  • Härtter
  • Lechner Massivhaus
  • Hauser

This might help some of you with your decision or search.

Good luck!

Thank you for your interesting post. For what reasons do you rank Lechner in seventh place?

Thank you very much for all the information.

We really appreciate you taking the time to provide such a detailed response. This is very valuable to us.
Hauser is no longer an option for us because they are not very flexible with the floor plan. In addition, we have several special requests that they are only partially able to accommodate. They are also quite expensive, despite using a standardized construction method. I think this is due to the special requests.
Currently, Köhler, HeFa, and another smaller builder are still in the running.
I find it interesting that all of them can basically start immediately in the approval process.
How long was your construction period?

Do you or anyone else know if Hauser offers ventilation systems? And if so, what the additional cost might be?
