Hello,
we have been looking for a plot in Hamburg for quite some time and have had a general contractor lined up throughout this period. We came across this contractor relatively early in our search at a prefabricated house park. Due to the size of the company, the comparatively affordable prices, and our personal impression, we somewhat focused on this contractor, and the only thing left was to find a suitable plot. It now seems that we have found one. It is an undeveloped semi-detached house plot. That means one half already exists (from the 1970s), and we plan to build the new semi-detached house on the other half (including a basement). The price for the land is right, the location is excellent, and it seems we will get the plot if we agree fairly soon (there are, of course, many interested parties, and it is likely that the plot will not stay on the market for long).

This morning, we visited the site with the seller from the construction company, and initially, everything looked good; he was also very enthusiastic. However, this afternoon we received a message from him saying that the construction could not/would not proceed as planned, stating: "Possible settlement cracks on the existing house could occur, and in the basement area, we do not know what thickness the slab was built with." It should also be noted that the order situation for this construction company this year has apparently been so good that their target has already been met. We get the impression that, for this reason, they no longer want to take on more “complicated” projects (this was implied in the comments).

Our questions are now: Does anyone have experience with an extension or addition to a semi-detached house from the 1970s? Does anyone know a general contractor in Hamburg (preferably solid masonry construction) who they would recommend and who also offers reasonably priced services?
