Hello everyone,

In a house built in 1992, there are the connections shown in the picture. Can someone tell me what kind of connections these are? I guessed they might be LAN. The cable fits, but it doesn't seem to work. Thanks and best regards, Ash

Wall-mounted double module with two open RJ-45/telephone sockets, visible cables.

Forget the nonsense about shielding not mattering.

I disagree with that. I’ve terminated too many network cables myself to have learned that a shielding not properly threaded onto the connector is the difference between “works only with difficulty over short distances” and “works at full gigabit speed over any length.”

It might be different on the way to the network termination point (TAE), since there is enough voltage on the network side and the notorious doorbell wire really suffices. But within the local network, the transmission technology is different.

I don’t fully understand it myself, as the phenomenon seems illogical to me; however, as you describe it, I recognize it from patch cables and their connectors. Installation cables, on the other hand, seem to be more tolerant, even though the distribution alone shouldn’t really be the reason. In any case, I have seen quite a few runs working perfectly in practice that, theoretically, I wouldn’t have expected to work at all.
