Hello everyone!
According to the description, the Miele dishwasher we are getting can be connected to the hot water supply.

Since our KFW55 new build already includes a solar system with a 400-liter (106-gallon) hot water tank, and there are only two people in our household, I wanted to ask if it makes sense from an energy cost perspective to connect the dishwasher to the hot water supply and what your experiences are with this.

Thank you very much!

This is about a dishwasher, which only has one connection.

That’s right, I was still thinking about a washing machine because of the previous posts.

But even with a dishwasher, I wouldn’t do it, as there’s no cost-saving effect. Additional costs may come from the piping for hot water and circulation on that same line. However, both of these might already be available at the tap fitting. You shouldn’t expect to save anything by doing this.

Dishwasher: definitely recommended! No extra effort and no additional costs. Our solar thermal system is limited to a storage temperature of 65°C (149°F), so from April to September/October the dishwasher does not need electricity to heat the water. The detergent (!) also does not contain any enzymes that cannot withstand temperatures below 60°C (140°F).

Using a ballast, it is definitely worthwhile to do laundry with the washing machine; the dishwasher has also been connected for years. Since using these two connections, my annual electricity consumption has been only 2000 kWh. Additionally, I cut and split my firewood electrically. Welding work is also done throughout the year. For a household of three people, this electricity consumption is highly recommendable thanks to the solar connections.
