Hello everyone, I have an issue with my IKEA KALLAX shelf, specifically with the inserts for the compartments. These inserts keep slipping down or sideways inside the KALLAX compartments, which causes clutter because the items inside don’t stay neatly in place. This makes it difficult to use and leaves the space disorganized.
I have already tried tightening the inserts and securing them with cloths to prevent slipping, but nothing has held up permanently. Maybe someone here in the forum has a practical solution or helpful tips on how to keep the inserts from shifting inside the KALLAX compartments for good? I would appreciate any suggestions, including homemade fixes or ideas for materials to use. Thanks in advance!

I used self-adhesive magnetic strips that can be easily installed without any tools. They do not provide industrial-grade strength, but they are more than sufficient for household use – even with loaded inserts. It is important that the metal strips are firmly glued to the back panel of the furniture. This solution is naturally less suitable for very heavy loads, but it is more than adequate for most applications in the KALLAX.

Good morning everyone! I did some experimenting last night and ordered some self-adhesive anti-slip mats this morning to stick under the inserts. I could also try the version with small angle profiles wrapped in felt if the mats aren’t enough. Thanks for all your diverse tips so far! Does anyone have longer-term experience with these kinds of modifications and can share their insights?

Slight inaccuracies can block or hinder the fit. It is best to test with trial pieces before attaching to ensure everything fits cleanly. For some, silicone can also help as a temporary filler to compensate for small gaps while increasing slip resistance.
I just wanted to say that everyone here is very helpful, and this topic is really motivating. 🙂 I’m also curious: Have any of you ever considered 3D-printed mounting brackets? They could be used to create perfectly fitting fixtures for KALLAX units. Does anyone have experience with this?
