I want to cast a ring beam on a sand-lime brick wall and am uncertain about how to proceed with the concrete formwork. Is it sufficient to dampen the wood beforehand, or should it be primed with release agent or form oil?

I directly purchased formwork panels. I also lend them to friends and family. To ensure they last over time, the formwork is oiled before each use with special form oil. After the concrete work, everything is stripped and thoroughly cleaned, then oiled again.

That is certainly a good idea when using that type of formwork. I use old boards that I can nail together into panels as needed. It requires a bit more work, but everything fits perfectly.

I also keep a container of used oil, which I use for this purpose.
