Hello,

I hope you can help me, as I have a rather unattractive problem. I know, maybe I should have asked someone experienced before wallpapering—but I didn’t!

Now it’s done, the hallway has been wallpapered, and you can clearly see the individual strips that were pasted. I was told that I applied the wallpaper against the direction of the light, whatever that means???

Anyway, the edges are very visible, and it looks quite unappealing. Is there any way to hide or soften the edges?

I hope someone understands what I mean…

Unfortunately, I know exactly what you mean, because it has happened to me as well. This happens when you wallpaper in the wrong direction, causing the edge to create a small shadow. I’m afraid there’s nothing you can do about it, as you would need to remove the wallpaper to fix it.

You can only counteract this with lighting if you make sure to have a light source coming from the opposite direction, then it won’t be as visible. However, this is just a temporary fix and does not solve the main problem. At least now you know better for next time.

Unfortunately, I’m afraid there’s nothing more that can be done about that. It would be nice if there were a trick to fix it, as it has happened to me as well. However, usually it’s only very noticeable to yourself; if someone else visits you, it generally doesn’t stand out.

I don’t think there’s much you can do except strip off all the wallpaper and redo everything. It’s a tedious job, but I’m afraid you have no other option.

You might also try making the whole thing look intentional. If you find a different wallpaper that matches, you could apply squares or another pattern. I've seen something like that before, and it looks great. You would just need to experiment to see what fits best.
