Hello everyone,

I am renovating a semi-detached house and the entire electrical installation, including network cabling, will be completely redone. The existing cables will no longer be used.

How does it work with the telephone sockets? I want to place my router in a network cabinet in the utility room. The main distribution point (MDP) is in the adjacent room. So, I need a telephone socket in the utility room.

I’m not allowed to access the MDP myself. Therefore, I need to have a telecom technician come and install the new telephone socket with a connection to the main line. Is that correct?

Hi Roadrunner,

it is correct that you are not allowed to work on the main connection point (APL) yourself.
However, an easier way would probably be to extend the existing cable to the first telephone connection box (TAE) into the desired room.
Where is the first TAE connected to the APL located today?
You are allowed to modify this on your own.

To my knowledge, the ground floor hallway is there. However, it is supposed to be removed.

You don’t need the outlet anyway. Then run a cable from the room where you plan to have the router and other equipment directly to the outlet and connect the two cables inside the wall. Just make sure to create a proper and high-quality connection so that your bandwidth is not affected.
