Hello everyone,

I am planning to create an opening for a door in an existing (non-load-bearing) wall. On one side, there is a 10mm (0.4 inch) thick parquet floor, and on the other side, there is a 4.5mm (0.18 inch) thick stretch carpet. At the opening, a stretch carpet will be installed, which will be finished flush with the parquet using a transition profile set to 10mm (0.4 inch).

Here is my problem:
There is a height difference of 5.5mm (0.22 inch) between the parquet and the stretch carpet. I would like to create some kind of "ramp" to make the transition smooth and avoid any tripping hazard. Now I am wondering what would be the best way to create such a ramp. Would it be suitable to use concrete, fine concrete, mortar, leveling compound, or perhaps another method?

Has anyone had experience with this and can offer some advice?

Thank you very much.
Best regards,

Install a nice stainless steel strip as a finish. It is definitely not a tripping hazard, or do your feet slip on the floor?

Yes, that would be an option, but the other doors look like this (see photo), and we would like to have everything consistent throughout. Most of our doors are usually open, so the transition would be clearly visible.

Transition from dark carpet to light wood flooring at the doorway.

Hello

Just start by making the breakthrough. There will probably still be some changes to the assumed 5mm (0.2 inches) height difference.
The screed is unlikely to be exactly level everywhere.

And then there is leveling compound, fiber-reinforced from 0 to 20mm (0 to 0.8 inches). That is what I would use.
