for my construction project, I have a plastic light well (ACO). This light well is located right by the access path to the house.
Now, my earthworks contractor said that using a plastic light well might cause problems. According to him, it’s difficult to compact properly around it (whether with soil, screened fill, or gravel).
He suggests removing the plastic light well and installing a concrete light well instead.
What has been your experience?
Another question: when and where is gravel and screened fill needed (access path, terrace, etc.)?
For me, gravel costs about 28€/tonne and screened fill 18€. Soil is free.
Thanks for your answers.

I also think it’s nonsense. Of course, you can’t drive a compactor over it, but there are also hand tampers, and then you just have to compact every 10cm (4 inches) within a radius of about 1–2m (3–6 feet). It holds just as well.
What exactly do you mean by pre-screening? Don’t use large aggregate. Although it is more load-bearing, it is usually unnecessary for a single-family home. If you ever need to dig something up later, it will be much more difficult than if you use a smaller size.
