ᐅ Roof rafters color – lighter gray, which RAL code?

Hello dear forum,

It is now time to decide on a color for the rafter tails. The roof will be covered with Tegalit slate gray, and the windows will be finished in RAL 7016.

Tegalit slate gray is similar to 7016 when placed side by side. What color did you choose for the rafter tails? I think a lighter gray would look nice, to create a clear contrast with RAL 7016—but I do need to give the carpenter a specific color shade.

I found an example online—can anyone tell me which gray is used for the rafters here?

I’ve ordered a RAL color fan myself—let’s see how that turns out. Are there any tips on how to project a small color sample onto a large surface / make life easier? Or is it just a “guesswork” decision in the end? 🙂

It’s always a bit of guesswork because manufacturers only promise “close to RAL 1234,” and colors also vary depending on the material and surface finish.
My photo shows a K5 color fan. I wouldn’t go smaller than that; smaller ones aren’t very helpful. If you find a “favorite shade,” you can also buy that individually as a larger sample card and compare it against other samples to see if it fits.

Off topic: Great that someone else besides me has started a “color thread.” 🙂 According to some practical-minded forum members and experts, it’s rather (rightfully) pointless because colors look different on every monitor, phone, etc., but it’s still fun. 🙂 What other thread here in the forum lets you simply speculate, guess, and estimate in a relaxed way without having to comment in a well-founded, highly argumentative manner? Also, this is one of those threads where everyone theoretically has a valid point.

For me, it’s
RAL 000 65 00
Mortar grey

🙂

Have fun guessing ;-)

For that, you would need a standardized projection surface and a standardized light color ... but even then, it wouldn’t change the fact that RAL is not Pantone (Pantone standardizes the result, whereas RAL only represents an attempt to match a specific color tone).

Oh dear.
If you look at the color chart from @guckuck2:
Ask yourself whether, after moving in or painting, you would be able to notice which color from the chart (from left) it is: 2, 10, 1, 14, or 18.
You don’t see it. It’s not noticeable. It’s not 100% important or memorable. It’s overrated.
Personally, I wouldn’t choose a third color component, but that’s a matter of taste.

As Loriot famously said: "Wrong! Like the Second – THAT is quality! – authentically botched and corked..." and otherwise, as we know, "Pussi" recommends "a fresh stone gray" 🙂

I honestly don’t know what you’re trying to say here... I hope it’s not because of me 😀

If you stick to two colors, would that be 7016 or the white from the exterior plaster? And @11ant, I don’t get that xD
