We have just purchased and moved into a house built in 1995. The attic was constructed as a cold roof, with DRAGOFOL as the underlay membrane on the pitched roof surfaces. The ceiling of the top floor has the classic structure (from bottom to top):

- Plasterboard
- Battens (or possibly none? I haven’t looked in depth yet…)
- Beams with mineral wool or fiberglass insulation in between (not sure)
- Above that, battens with gaps (apparently for ventilation, as I learned here in the forum)

At that time, it seems that no airtight breathable membrane was installed; I certainly haven’t seen any.

Now I want to install empty conduit pipes to run LAN cables from the basement up to the attic. Before I start installing unsightly cable ducts through the rooms, I would prefer to run conduit pipes over the cold roof.

What do I need to consider?
Do the conduit pipes need to be installed under the insulation, directly on the plasterboard?

How much benefit is there in making the attic ceiling airtight by installing an airtight breathable membrane?
