Hello everyone,

We are in the final planning phase of our house and are now wondering if, for our planned cold roof, two small roof windows for cross-ventilation are necessary.
Our client advisor says yes, but the general contractor considers them unnecessary.
How did you handle this in your projects?

Good luck, Julia

We have planned windows for cross-ventilation but would rather follow the building expert's opinion. It is definitely not airtight up there.

Is it really a true cold roof, meaning a double-layered roof?

Do you really go up and down there all the time to open and close the windows?!

Hello,

We do have two windows (one in each gable) in the attic, but they are only opened for cleaning.

Air exchange in our attic is achieved through ventilation bricks.

This works quite well so far.

However, the temperatures in our attic vary significantly between summer and winter – you can’t really call it “constant.”

Regards,

In our house (shed roof), perforated metal sheets were installed in the front and rear roof overhangs to allow air to circulate throughout the entire roof. Unfortunately, I did not take a photo of it.

This only works well with a double-shell roof – for example, if there is a roof window, it usually doesn’t work in that case.
