Hello everyone,

I am currently planning our front garden, including the paving works. Since we like the Bavarian/rustic style, our paving in front of the double garage will also have a more rustic look. Accordingly, we are not very fond of using a concrete curb as the edge for the paving (location shown in the picture).

In your opinion, is it possible, or has anyone had experience with large cobblestones as edging for paved areas? Or would the paving stones as edging not provide enough support for the paved driveway that will be driven on?

Thanks & best regards,
Jörg

The prefabricated garage with the woodgrain sectional door cleverly hides that *LOL*

What kind of support? – In the photo, I assume the left side already shows the neighbor’s property, so the driveway is at the boundary – how should especially any height differences be stabilized there?

Whether you choose a curb stone or a row of paving stones is a matter of personal preference. Both should be installed on a concrete foundation.

If you are paving with granite, you should also use granite curbstones or a row of granite paving stones.

Thank you for the quick responses. I was just thinking that a single concrete beam might provide more stable support due to its overall height (including the concrete wedge/foundation). I thought that support with cobblestones wouldn’t be sufficient for driving over the pavement.

The loads are transferred through the foundation, whether it is a single row or a kerb.

Single row: is a line of paving stones,

Whatever the cobblestones are supposed to support – I still see my questions as unanswered.
