Hello,

Background: We selected windows and roller shutters and received the dimensions from the company. Based on this information, the shell construction was built. When the windows and roller shutters were then ordered by the company from the manufacturer, it turned out that an old roller shutter model had been offered to us, which is no longer available. The new one is now 2 cm (0.8 inches) smaller. By that time, of course, the shell construction was already in place.

Now to my question: How do I close the 2 cm (0.8 inches) gap? I was advised to use Heraklith. From your point of view, is that correct, or is there another option?

2cm (0.8 inches) is perfect for Jackodur panels. It provides a bit of extra insulation and can then be easily filled and plastered.

Are the boxes now too narrow, too low, or too shallow (looking at the window from the outside)?

Regardless of which of the three options applies, as long as the gap is filled without significant voids using Heraklit, XPS, or Jackodur, it is basically not a problem.

Too low, but you can’t see it from the outside because the weather barrier is in front.

Great – then we can install the windows and later push the insulation into the gap.

Thank you all

Use expanding foam and/or silicone :-p

I would also say that this is one of the few truly practical uses for PU foam. But also remember to seal the joint airtight from the inside later on. The window installer should ideally take care of this, as they have all the necessary tools and materials on hand.
