How do you seal the ceiling penetrations for ventilation ducts (installed at floor level, concrete ceiling)? With concrete or screed? Do the ducts then require any additional protection?
Take a photo, to keep it short and simple.
Foam is meant for gaps, not for large voids. As mentioned, polystyrene is quite stable and does not absorb moisture.

I don’t have a picture of the breakthrough at the moment. No rush.

The attachment (from the internet) actually illustrates the situation quite well. The internet is available too, but unfortunately that picture shows the wrong side. My concern is where your problem is (from below): from above it disappears into the finished floor and is closed off. What are you worried about from underneath? That something might crawl in, moisture perhaps?

What are you worried about from below: that something might crawl in, moisture for example? Well, I’m not really sure. The insulation (on the opening) might be unstable, or I did consider moisture coming from below, but I’m not sure how that would damage the insulation... So, would it make sense to first install insulation from above plus complete the rest of the floor structure, and then at some point (fairly soon) fill in from below with polystyrene or foam? Then put a board on it, plaster, and finish?
