Hello,
today the bricklayers started installing the facing bricks on our house, and we discussed some details.
For us, it was clear that the window sills should also be covered with facing bricks.
However, the contractor strongly advised against this. He said that water might not drain properly and that white streaks could quickly appear underneath.
Does anyone have experience with this?

That’s correct – those streaks are salt efflorescence.
Properly and permanently sealing a waterproofing layer against penetrating moisture (rain-exposed side) is not easy. I would also recommend a traditional external window sill instead.
Best regards, Bauexperte The lady who says that a fully tiled walk-in shower is absolutely no problem is now saying that clinker brick window sills are “not easy.” Somehow the statements keep getting twisted...
It is true that it’s not entirely simple.
And if they already advise you against it, then they probably just can’t do it anyway. It’s probably safe to assume that people can’t manage that.
For clinker brick houses, it’s common for the window sill to be made of clinker bricks as well. I come from the far north, where almost every house is built with clinker bricks (over 95%) and all of them have clinker brick window sills.
Of course, if you want to do something different, that’s possible too.

Knallkörper2 Sep 2016 13:50In the north, the rolling layers are usually steeply inclined. This is considered a basic requirement for proper execution. We thought about it for a long time and ultimately decided on granite window sills.
We have an impregnated facing brick from Olfry. No idea if this would have made any difference with the rolling layer.
