Hello everyone,

Is it possible or allowed to install click-lock laminate, vinyl, cork, etc., with an HDF core as a floating floor continuously across several rooms, or are expansion gaps required at doorways? There are expansion joints in the screed at the room transitions. Do these need to be reflected in the floating floor installation as well? I have seen that some people install it continuously, but I don’t know if they have expansion joints in the screed underneath.

It seems reasonable that expansion gaps at doorways in the screed should also be incorporated into the floating floor. But why do you often see, hear, and read that continuous installation is possible? Are many taking the risk of cracking? I contacted the manufacturer Parador regarding vinyl with an HDF core. According to their email response, continuous installation is possible, but the edges should be glued. However, the manufacturer’s guide states something different and requires expansion gaps at doorways.

What are the experiences of professionals or homeowners here?

Thank you very much

I would follow the specifications provided by the respective flooring material. They usually indicate a maximum area in square meters that can or should be installed continuously without an expansion joint.

I installed a gap between the doors and covered it with a suitable profile.
