Hello everyone, I have a Malm bed frame and various pieces of furniture from the IKEA Malm series at home. Since these usually have veneered or lacquered surfaces, I am wondering: How can I clean these Malm furniture pieces without causing any damage? Of course, I want to avoid unattractive water stains, scratches, or even worn spots caused by harsh cleaning agents. Are there any special tips for gentle yet effective cleaning that you would recommend? I am especially interested in advice on choosing cleaning products, suitable cleaning tools, and methods to clean the furniture as carefully as possible. Thank you in advance!

If you need to remove stains from glue or other sticky substances, an eraser can work quite well. However, please test first to ensure the surface underneath does not become dull.

I wanted to add: With Malm furniture, you should also be mindful of significant temperature fluctuations in the room. Hot or humid conditions can make the veneer more sensitive. So always dry quickly and avoid overheating.

Thank you for all the helpful tips and advice!

To sum up, I will start by cleaning with a damp microfiber cloth, a little mild dish soap, and then drying the surface. For grease stains, I will carefully try diluted vinegar, but only spot-cleaning and not regularly. I find the tip about using a bread roll very clever – I’ll try to see if that works for me :-).

If I have any more questions, I’ll get in touch again!

You’re welcome! And that’s exactly the right approach, Kaupe – take it slowly and carefully. The most important thing is drying, as any remaining moisture can cause stains. It’s great that you’re also using the tips from the thread.
