ScubaDiver17 May 2022 11:23Hello everyone,
we are currently planning which surface to use for the concrete entrance platform. Additionally, we intended to cover the sides with palisades. Now we have the problem that the light well connects at a different height. I have attached a few pictures.
Do you have any ideas on what we can do? The palisades obviously cannot be installed on the light well.
I would really appreciate all ideas and suggestions. Why it was done this way should not be part of the discussion, as we are already frustrated enough about that ;-)
Thank you very much

How much build-up height do you actually have?
From what I can see, it looks like only tiles would be possible in relation to the door. Or is there more build-up height than that? Palisades probably won’t fit alongside the light well, since you can’t place them at least in that area. Installing palisades with the light well wouldn’t really be a sensible option either. So, from my point of view, the only option is basically to cover the platform with appropriate tiles, unless there is more build-up height than the pictures suggest.

I would choose granite tiles, which are available for outdoor use starting from 10mm (0.4 inches) thickness. This should be sufficient to align flush with the shaft. Also, it’s a good idea to install a doormat flush with it.
Is a step still missing there, or will it be paved accordingly?

Would you then also cover the side with tiles?
There will probably be a step before that.

So with a maximum of 5cm (2 inches), a natural stone slab should also be possible, which I would generally prefer. Alternatively, there are also large-format tiles available; personally, I would lean towards a seamless option.
However, the question is what you would prefer?! Personally, with a maximum of 5cm (2 inches), I would most likely choose a natural stone slab (one slab for the top of the pedestal) and, if it fits, do the sides with the same material (how much clearance is there to the light well?). However, the side panels can possibly be manufactured thinner if needed.

At the very least, someone from the regular members would have noticed this detail in time.
