Hello everyone,

I just signed up here because we are in the middle of planning our build. We are designing an urban villa with a roof overhang of 80 cm (31 inches) and I would like to install recessed spotlights in the roof overhang. I have read that there can sometimes be issues with insects in such areas. However, on another site I saw that lights with 3000 Kelvin do not attract insects. Does anyone here have experience with this?

Thank you very much

I mainly showcase my house for myself and my family. Less so in summer, but in winter, when it gets dim around 4:00 PM, it is very pleasant. That’s why I want it to be well-lit around the house then.

I can accept that for a historic castle or something similar.
For a new build, especially with standard architecture, I’m less in favor. There are many reasons against it, most of which have already been mentioned.
Turning on the lights by a motion sensor when entering the property and switching them off after a few minutes makes sense. But lighting the area for half the night is not appropriate.
Usually, it looks poor because of the plaster.
It’s better to use floodlights in the garden or illuminate the house itself, but only when needed and not continuously.

Sorry, that’s nonsense. I install the engine tuning and the great sound system for myself. But when I open the window in summer and turn the volume up loud, I want to be noticed. I don’t install underglow lighting “for myself” either, but so that others stop and look… just like girls who wear miniskirts “for themselves,” yeah right…

With recessed ceiling lights, there is a risk that you’re actually the subject of conversation with the neighbors.
Usually, it’s not “Have you seen those great ceiling lights?”
More like “Have you noticed that bad plaster they shine on every night? Does he think the LEDs will smooth it out over time?”
Or
“Can’t he just turn those lights off? What does he think is so special about his rectangular box that he needs to light it up all night long?”

No joke, I’ve already talked with two neighbors about those fools who leave their spotlights on all night. Anyone who thinks they’ll get envious looks from that… forget it.

My poppy field behind the house, on the other hand, is a hit—I could charge admission.
It’s just that I don’t have time to tend to it.

So I gather that you keep your family warmly wrapped in the dark—sorry, in the spotlight of the house—and constantly walk around it, since it’s for you and your family.
