Hello everyone,
the basement of my house is now completed. For several days, I have been thinking about how to arrange the furniture and plan the kitchen. I am worried that 43m2 (460 sq ft) might be too small.
Our architect’s plan does not include any furniture, so I took the time to create some layouts using Sweet Home 3D.
Questions:
- What do you think about 43m2 (460 sq ft)?
- Which layout do you like the most?
- What would you do differently?
THANKS for your opinions.

I’m not sure what kind of palaces you live in, but generally, I would never say that 43 m² (460 sq ft) is "not ample" or "very small." You just need to carefully consider which furniture to place where and how much space it requires, but the same applies to 50, 60, or 70 m² (540, 645, or 750 sq ft) as well. I do agree, however, that these considerations shouldn’t only be made on moving day.

Yes, this is again the living area aristocracy. However, I would also say that an island kitchen no longer allows for practical furnishing with a full dining table. Alternatively, if that is more important, then the sofa area simply has to be smaller. This is quite conceivable if the typical home theater wall is missing, which is not always a priority everywhere.

vanny270515 Jun 2020 08:49We also planned for only 43 sqm (462 sq ft), but deliberately, as we wanted a cozy living/dining/kitchen area. The first walls are already built, and we are very satisfied. We have an L-shaped layout and carefully planned all the furniture beforehand. If your space were narrower and wider, the kitchen island would have worked; otherwise, I would continue with option 2. What I don’t like is the TV being squeezed in there. Maybe place the sofa in front of the window instead?
