Hello everyone,
we are currently choosing front doors... Which material would you recommend for front doors? Aluminum is said to cause condensation and to conduct cold very well in winter, with wood I have some concerns that it might eventually weather, and plastic... I’m not sure, it doesn’t seem very appealing... What front doors do you have? And are you satisfied?

Two gray doors with handles; left door has overlapping panel, right door has inset panel.

This picture clearly illustrates the point: it’s not about anything dramatic, but simply about avoiding the small "double edge" created by the outer frame and the sash frame, and visually making it appear as if the door leaf consists entirely of the panel alone. If you want to apply this consistently on both sides, it means that for glass panels, the spacing of the panes must be precisely adjusted to the profile thickness.

Make your house great again. Metal first. German house doors are the best in the world, it's true. No exaggeration. Really, they even keep out intruders. True. Like a real wall. Believe me, even a 14mm (0.55 inch) shotgun can't break them....

I configured a door with side panels through Obst and requested a quote.
Approximately 5000€ including VAT and installation.
That is 1500€ more than our budget.

The panel is made of aluminum.

Since this door is "off-the-shelf" and not a custom/made-to-measure model, I actually expected it to be significantly cheaper than the custom-made one for around 6000€, based on our desired photo.

Green front door with two glass windows in front of a brick facade; mailbox on the right.

Execution and features are more expensive here than the question of standard or special sizes. These prices for a door like the one in the photo are by no means the highest in this range; in this league of individuality, there are no longer any bargain hunters.

By the way, "off-the-shelf" does not mean "stock size" for anything that is not plain and white (certainly not at a bestseller unit price); rather, it means that this design has been fully calculated for standard dimensions and the price can be given immediately "out of the drawer."

Windows and doors are nowadays custom-made for house construction. There is hardly any stock available.

I consider 5000 a bargain for this design.
