Hello everyone,
We will soon have the screed installed and need to decide on our flooring.
We are getting Jura natural stone in the kitchen/dining area/hallway, solid ash wood planks in the living and bedrooms, and linoleum in the office. The children’s rooms are still undecided. Here, we are torn between solid wood planks and linoleum.
From our perspective, the following advantages apply:
Advantages of solid wood planks:
- Timeless and attractive
- Can be sanded down and refinished
- Can be installed as a DIY project
- Better price per square meter (sqm) when ordering larger quantities (from 80sqm (860 sq ft) we get flooring that can be oiled to match the stair steps by a carpenter). The cheaper option is pre-oiled, which carries the risk of color differences. The only spot where this might be noticeable is at the bottom of the stairs on the ground floor, since it immediately leads into the living room. [Floor plan in the thread: "Jurahaus Grundriss - Frühe Projektphase"]
Advantages of linoleum:
- Durable
- Initially cheaper price per sqm (we don’t feel confident installing it ourselves)
- Great designs (timeless??)
What would you choose and why?
I would also love to see photos of your linoleum floors if you have any and are willing to share 🙂
