Hello everyone

We are still working on the floor plan for our single-family house. Now we are considering a version where a child’s bedroom faces north. This means there would be a large window facing north and a floor-to-ceiling slit window facing east. To the north, the view is quite open, with the next house about 50 meters (55 yards) away.

What do you think about this? I’m worried the room might be too dark. I would prefer a west-facing orientation, but somehow it doesn’t work out.

Thank you for your opinions.

Roller blinds do not need to be fully closed, no matter how hot it is. Many rooms are corner rooms, so a second window can be installed on a different wall. If that is not possible, external blinds / venetian blinds can be used. We never have dark, cave-like conditions in the south-facing rooms.

As a child, I had one window facing west and another facing north.
It was always relatively dark until the afternoon, especially in winter.

If possible, I would plan a children's room with windows facing south and east or south and west. This way, in summer, you can usually leave one of the windows unobstructed.
