WilhelmRo30 Apr 2019 09:57Hi everyone,
I’ve just started a list of things I don’t want to forget during the house-building process.
It’s more about the small details. I thought maybe you could help expand the list for me and future builders?
It would be great to keep adding to it, while keeping debates like “you don’t really need that” to a minimum 🙂
Then people can simply go through the “list” here and think for themselves, “I need that too” or “that’s nonsense” 🙂
I’ll just start:
1. Outdoor water tap
2. Motion sensor lights (hallways, pantry)
3. (Passive) stair lighting (downward-facing spotlights)
4. Prepare conduits for photovoltaic system
5. Heavy-duty power supply in garage
6. Switched power outlets in garden
7. Provision for camera at front door
8. LAN connections (3x living room, 2x office, 1x per child’s room, 1x bedroom)
9. Window seat bench
10. Door in garage (from outside, not connected to the house)
Hope you have some more good ideas 🙂
Regards

Also worried that this might become too customized
Outdoor area
Water and electricity for outdoor kitchen
Terrace lighting
Electricity for garden lighting
Irrigation system
Water and electricity for hot tub, swimming pool
Outdoor faucet on every side of the house, plus one in the green area for large gardens
Outdoor sockets not only on the terrace (should be on a separate residual-current device / RCD or otherwise switchable)
Cistern
Space for rain barrel
For sloped plots, each level must be accessible by trailer, wheelbarrow, lawn mower, hand truck
Garage, carport
Lighting
Three-phase power
Sufficient outlets for workbench
House
Wide doors
No thresholds, steps, or level changes
Reinforced or solid wood support behind bathroom walls for future grab bar installation (eventually mobility decreases, even if it takes 30 more years)
Electricity at the staircase for a stairlift (in case it becomes necessary)
Staircase wide enough for a stairlift
(No, we don’t want to squeeze ourselves into the ground floor when older and leave the upper floor unused)

WilhelmRo30 Apr 2019 11:01@haydee Thanks! Thanks to you, I was able to expand my list!
60% of your suggestions were already planned anyway.
What I was able to take with me is the power connection for the elevator!
Of course, all of this is very individual – but don’t dismiss it just because you can’t think of anything (or don’t want to).
@Nordlys It may be that 90% seems unnecessary to you, but there is about a generation gap between us.
For you, smart home automation is just a fad – for me, it’s the future.
You want to mow the lawn on Saturdays – I want to watch my robot do it.
Perfect – another new item on my list:
11. Connection for robotic lawn mower (power only? Or also LAN? I’ll Google it 🙂
I would still appreciate more “individual wish” lists.
Best regards

For you, automated living is just a gimmick – for me, it’s the future.
You want to mow the lawn on Saturdays – I want to watch my robot do it. Then plan for outdoor power outlets.
However, window seats, high-voltage electrical connections, and any kind of indirect lighting are definitely personal customization preferences and do not belong under the topic “What should not be forgotten when building a house.”
