Hello everyone,

Our construction manager recently asked us if we might want to change our heating system due to the current situation (political issues, gas supply, war, etc.).

We are currently building a KfW55 house (town villa, 148sqm (1600 sq ft)) and had originally chosen a gas heating system combined with solar thermal last year when signing the contract. Now we are considering switching from the gas heating including solar thermal to an air heat pump on short notice.

We are a bit uncertain about how long the adjustments from the construction company’s side (architect, etc.) would actually take. This could possibly lead to a construction stop or even a delayed move-in. Regarding the construction progress, the foundation slab and the ground floor have been completed, and the next step will be the intermediate floor slab.

As far as I know, a modification has to be submitted to the building authority (building permit / planning permission). However, we still have some questions:

1. Is it possible to simply change the heating system during the construction phase and after receiving the building approval?

2. What documents are required for a modification submission to the building authority? Exterior views, technical data sheets of the air heat pump, and what else?

3. Could there be any issues with the already approved KfW55 application, and would a new energy calculation be needed regarding the subsidy?

4. Are there any other topics or points we should consider?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards, Martin
