Good evening.

I am currently considering modifying my garage, specifically the garage door. The issue I have right now is that the garage door is too narrow for today’s vehicles. It is 2.29 meters (7 ft 6 in) wide and 2.25 meters (7 ft 5 in) high. Next to the garage door, there is a pedestrian door. The door and the garage door are separated by a narrow pillar that I would like to remove (see attachments).

Do you think it is possible to remove the pillar without major effort? Or is there anything I should keep in mind?

I appreciate any help.

Best regards

Hello, please spend some money and consult a structural engineer!!!!!! From a distance, I would say it might work if you add support and move the column to the right, at the expense of the door. It looks like the support would continue through and carry the load. But would and could .... It’s very difficult to judge here in the forum.

Which stub do you mean? Stutz Royale, Stutz Diplomatica, Stutz Bear, or...?

Did you join here just to find typos? 50% of your posts are like this, and your other "joke" was even a repeat of something another user wrote before.

To the point:
The pillar can be chiseled out in a few minutes with a good tool; it’s not a big deal. However, I would feel uncomfortable doing this without expert advice. The load changes significantly.

Please consult a structural engineer. I suspect that you will need to install a beam at the top.
