Hello everyone,
We are currently planning the construction of our single-family home and are considering whether to install a decentralized or centralized ventilation system. According to a preliminary quote from a general contractor, there is a cost difference of about 8,500 euros (cost for decentralized) versus about 13,000 euros (cost for centralized), which I had expected to be higher. We are currently living in an apartment with a decentralized ventilation system and are dissatisfied with it. Mainly, we are bothered by the noise of the fans themselves and the external noises that come through because of that.
Therefore, I wanted to ask you which option you chose. Are you satisfied with it? Would you choose the same again?

Is €13,000, as stated by the original poster, a realistic price for a central ventilation system?Actually, no. The recoVair from Vaillant costs around €3,000 (MSRP €5,000) online. The ductwork is practically free. Planning is relatively easy to do yourself. The price is inflated because it’s considered "luxury."
If the quoted price is that high, just have the ducts installed and mount the unit yourself.

Obereiche21 May 2024 22:07I usually just read along, but with this price discussion, I feel the need to speak up. Either a lot has changed since last year, or in my region, central ventilation systems cost twice as much.
We are currently building a timber frame house with very simple duct routes. The actual system will be installed in the attic space, the ducts run inside the wall studs up to the upper floor, and then directly down to the ground floor where they come out of the ceiling. We don’t have to go through a concrete ceiling at all.
For this manageable installation, we obtained three quotes. They were €19,000, €17,000, and €15,000. Labor costs are the lowest part of that. And when you take a look at Viessmann’s price list, it becomes clear where these costs come from. For example, 50 meters (165 feet) of plastic duct costs €900, and the rest of the accessories are priced similarly.

Well, those are the recommended retail prices. When buying, you can get the round pipes for between 200 and 275 € for 50m (165 feet) (these are retail prices for private customers in the shop, not trade prices – the prices I mentioned are for 75mm (3 inches) or 90mm (3.5 inches) pipes). If a contractor charges you 900 €, you are free to choose someone else who offers reasonable prices.

This might be a luxury you can afford in urban areas, but here in the countryside you have to take what you can get. Within a 100km (62 miles) radius, there are seven plumbing companies. Of those, only three even offer ventilation systems.
Of course, I also inquired beyond that radius, but either they don’t accept new customers, the work can only start as early as 2025, or they confront you with the prices mentioned.
So for 13,000€, I would take it immediately.
