Hello,
what are your thoughts on the topic of having a basement or not?
Generally, most people advise against a basement because it’s expensive, dark (not necessarily), and often only used for a party room, sauna, or laundry room.
Has anyone had experience without a basement but with a large garage? Does that really work?
Where do you hang laundry? Where do you put a workbench, tools, bicycles, and so on?
Thanks for your opinions!

We no longer have a basement and we are very happy with that. The washing machine and dryer are located in the utility room, which is much more convenient than having them in the basement before. Otherwise, everyone has to decide for themselves what they might need a basement for (hobbies, home gym, etc.), as everyone has different preferences.
Best regards,
Sabine

Sabine How do you insulate a room like that? Are the partition walls then 30cm (12 inches) thick sand-lime bricks and is there a soundproof door?
We have a wooden house, but the washing machine and dryer are placed on an insulated platform – so you don’t hear any noise.
And I admit: we use ironed bed linen *blushing*. Not only because it takes up less space in the closet – I simply love getting into a freshly made bed when the sheets are ironed. It’s just so... AHHHH!
