We are looking for a fly screen / insect screen for our patio door and windows that can also be opened and slid to the side (pleated or roller type). It is important that the screen is scratch-resistant from cats.

So far, I have not been able to find anything like this.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thank you in advance

I don’t believe that fixed insect screens are cat-proof. If a cat gets caught in the mesh or scratches at it, those fine-mesh screens will just break. I would take the risk and hope the cat learns not to touch them.
I don’t know any cat owner who has avoided using a regular insect screen because of their cats.

Otherwise, only hanging things like fabric flaps or curtain-like materials help.

Exactly. We already have standard insect screens, but the cats simply scratch them to pieces. Mesh hang-on screens don’t hold up either; they can get through those and can even open doors. They’ll probably figure out how to open them quickly.
That’s why I’m asking here.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Then you can meet one here now 😉. We don’t have one because it just doesn’t work with cats.

I would try fly screens with stainless steel mesh.

We are still searching as well; for our lift-and-slide door, only a pleated blind that slides open will fit because, due to the width, we need an additional structural profile in the middle. Otherwise, I would have chosen a large sliding frame with pet screen mesh. Unfortunately, with a pleated blind, only regular fabric is possible.

Our male cats are not allowed outside, which makes this even more challenging 🙄

To prevent scratching, I would simply provide a scratching post near the insect screen. Since we have a small scratching post right next to the sofa, the sofa itself has been spared 😉
