We have a KfW-55 end-terrace house with insulation, triple glazing, and a ventilation system. Now we want to install a cat flap in a glass panel next to the patio door. Has anyone done this before?

- How does this affect the performance of the ventilation system? It won’t be completely airtight anymore.
- How much heat loss can we expect – it’s just a simple plastic flap, after all.
- Is installation even possible with triple glazing that also has RC2 security features?

We would have a professional company do the installation, but we’re not sure if it’s all feasible. I would appreciate hearing about others’ experiences.

It cost us 600 EUR including installation for a triple-glazed unit measuring about 1x2m (3x6.5 ft). They also installed the vent. Still expensive if it’s not going to be used… 🙄

600 EUR (around $650) would be acceptable for me. The glass unit is roughly the same size and needs to be replaced here as well because it was previously RC2 (laminated). So maybe it’s better to visit a local glazier rather than asking the manufacturer?

That’s true. But if you’re away for a week, it’s not great for the cat...

We hired a glazier from the local area who also supplied and installed several mirrors. He was also surprised how affordable it was.

We will receive our KFW 55 house in 4 weeks and have had a hole installed in a triple-glazed fixed window, costing 360 euros, plus a SureFlap for 80 euros, and that completes the cat door. Heating costs? Ridiculous...

The original window manufacturer charges 1,600 euros for the modification... Unfortunately, we have fully laminated RC2 glass. You probably can't just cut a hole into that.

The significantly thicker glass (~11mm) and film only come with RC3, right?

What are the details of the glass and film in your RC2?
