In another forum, I was quite surprised to see carpet frequently recommended or even installed by users as flooring in the bedroom area. I was really surprised because:
- I always thought of carpet as a "cheap" flooring option (we had it installed together with the €3.99 laminate from Poco in the rental apartment)
- It is harder to clean, especially when it comes to liquids
- It can emit odors or off-gas
- You end up having one more type of flooring on the same level (having different floor coverings in the bathroom and other rooms [e.g., tiles and parquet/vinyl] is unavoidable, but this way you would have tiles in the bathroom, vinyl in the guest room, study, hallway, and carpet in the bedroom — three different floor coverings on one floor)

Haginan explained it a bit more clearly in the other forum:
In his mind, carpet is cheap stuff.
As I understood you, this is your biggest challenge. I can only recommend that you visit a large carpet store and stand barefoot on higher-quality carpets.
On the other hand, it depends on how often liquids are spilled onto the floor in your bedroom.
I also made it very clear: the entire upper floor carpeted, except for the bathroom.

There are huge differences in quality regarding the density of the material and, for example, whether you can install the carpet on a concrete staircase. In that case, it must be flexible enough to bend in at least one direction, and the substructure must not be visible.
You definitely won’t get that kind of quality for €3.99. For us, stair carpet is by far the most expensive flooring in the entire house.
If the carpet is just laid flat, it doesn’t have to be as dense and durable as on a staircase, but if you want it to last for several years, you won’t be happy with a €3.99/m² carpet.
Best regards,
Dirk Grafe
