What minimum dimensions do you think or have you experienced are necessary for a porch canopy?

It should be enough to search for keys in the rain, for visitors waiting to open the door in the rain, or to comfortably bring in the mail.

Is a depth of 1 meter (3.3 feet) sufficient?

We are already quite final with our planning. Our canopy is currently 3 meters (10 feet) long and 1 meter (3.3 feet) deep. Next to the front door side panel, there is still 70 cm (28 inches) available for decoration, a plant, or, of course, the mailbox.

What dimensions do you use?
The canopy will be built as a solid (masonry) structure.

Your childlike babbling (talking confidently but without the slightest idea) is really adorable. [no, I will not explain that]

The term is "masonry." But that doesn’t really matter.

Doesn’t anyone else here have an overhang? I thought I would read a few experience reports here.

Which orientation? North is different from west.

North. And a basic question: how does this differ regarding north and west?

The wind. It determines the intensity and direction of rainfall. It usually comes from the west.
Entrances facing east are often well protected, even without an overhang.
