karinapoHello everyone, I am currently planning to redesign our living room and have really fallen in love with the Ikea Platsa series. Before placing a larger order, I would like to know if it makes sense to combine Ikea Platsa with other Ikea furniture series without the overall look becoming too busy or mismatched. I am especially interested in whether there are any design or functional limitations to consider when combining Platsa with, for example, Bestå or Kallax. Are there any experiences or tips regarding color matching, dimensions, or materials? I would appreciate detailed feedback to help me avoid costly mistakes. Thanks!

Is it actually practical to combine Ikea Platsa with other furniture series from Ikea, without the overall look becoming too busy or mismatched? Oh, Platsa is actually quite flexible! The series has a slim design, and its clean look surprisingly complements other classic lines like Bestå very well. The key thing is to pay attention to the color tones – especially on doors and drawers.

Are there any experiences or tips regarding color coordination, dimensions, or materials? Here’s a tip: since Platsa usually looks lighter, you can combine it with bulkier furniture to create a nice contrast. The modules are quite variable in size and easy to adjust. I think mixing different Ikea pieces can even add a stylish, personal touch to the room – like a charming furniture mix. 😉

I’m mainly interested in whether there are any design or functional limitations to consider when combining Platsa, for example, with Bestå or Kallax. The main limitation is related to the dimensions: Platsa units have different height and depth measurements compared to Bestå or Kallax, which can make it difficult to place them directly side by side. I recommend carefully planning the measurements in advance and possibly opting for staggered height arrangements.
In terms of appearance, Platsa works well with other series due to its neutral color palette, but the materials and handles differ. If a uniform look is important to you, consider coordinating the door and drawer fronts or replacing them individually if needed.
Functionally, Platsa’s modular design offers great flexibility, which is an advantage when combining with other series. However, be sure to ensure stability when connecting units, as different series often cannot be directly attached to each other.
I can completely understand your concerns about how the combination will affect the overall look. I felt the same way when I wanted to mix my Platsa cabinets with Bestå. At first, I wasn’t sure if it would work because the series look similar but aren’t exactly the same.
That was my challenge too. In the end, I used the different depths to give the living room a more structured feel – most of the doors and drawers are in matching colors, which keeps the look calm.
At first, I had some trouble because I couldn’t connect all the modules directly. But the good news is: in practice, it hardly matters if you leave a little space between the furniture. I’d say the experiment was worth it. It creates a cozy and comfortable atmosphere that you sometimes miss with completely uniform series.

whether Ikea Platsa can actually be sensibly combined with other Ikea furniture series Yes, you can.
Consider size, color, and connection options.
Platsa is modular but doesn’t always fit directly with other series.
It usually works with Bestå or Kallax if you plan carefully.
I’ll add a quick note: If you’re flexible with color and finish, you can also create small accents through handles or cabinet fronts that are a bit more striking than those in Platsa, giving the whole setup more character.
This adds depth to your interior and prevents everything from looking sterile.
And honestly – a bit of mix is what really brings it to life, right?
Just avoid chaos, which can easily happen when mixing wildly without a plan.
