In my kitchen, there are still ugly wall tiles installed, which I want to replace in the medium term.

After being convinced of the advantages of vinyl flooring, I’m considering whether it’s possible to replace the wall tiles with vinyl flooring as well.

Is that possible?

In that case, I assume adhesive vinyl would need to be used rather than click vinyl. Am I correct?
Suppose a specific vinyl pattern (that I like) is only available as click vinyl.
Is it still possible to fix this to the wall?

After all, vinyl is not as heavy as wall tiles and does not require impact sound insulation on the wall.

Hello Tobias,
To break it down to a technical level, you want to attach a floor covering to the wall.
It is obvious that different factors must be considered for wall surfaces than for floor coverings.
Of course, you can degrease the wall tiles, sand them, prime with a primer for non-absorbent substrates (as an adhesion promoter), and then fill the joints.
This is necessary so that the joint pattern does not show through later.
Then, in theory, you can glue a flexible floor covering using a corresponding, very fast-setting adhesive system.
Please note that every adhesive has a so-called “pot life,” which is the time window during which the adhesive can still be applied.
Meanwhile, you will need several people to hold the floor covering—bearing its weight—in place on the wall.
In short, what you proposed or have in mind is simply a “crazy idea”!
There are certainly many other ways to apply a suitable wall covering that is also designed for this intended use.
Please forget about click vinyl and similar materials. It will cost you time, nerves, and money, and on the other hand, will only lead to many frustrating moments without any chance of achieving the original idea as you envision it.

For budget reasons, we applied vinyl flooring material to the wall in the kitchen of the transitional house. We are very satisfied with the result. There used to be a tiled backsplash, which we simply removed, and then installed the vinyl as a splash guard. It holds with regular construction adhesive, and the bottom edges can be sealed with acrylic.

Of course, it is. I have also installed laminate flooring on a wall before. However, there was a wooden stud wall available. Using construction adhesive should not be a problem. You can work in sections so the adhesive can set in between. But construction adhesive bonds extremely quickly, so it should be possible to do it all in one go. The leverage force on a flat wall is very low. The vinyl tends to pull downward, but the floor prevents it from slipping.
