ᐅ Can Pax wardrobes stand freely without being anchored to the wall?

Hello everyone, I recently purchased a Pax wardrobe from IKEA and came across the recommendation to always secure the wardrobe to the wall with a mounting bracket. My specific question is: Can Pax wardrobes remain mechanically stable and safe without being fixed to the wall, without risk of tipping? I am especially interested in whether the wardrobes are stable enough under normal conditions without the wall bracket when fully assembled and evenly loaded with clothing. Or is the wall bracket absolutely necessary for safety reasons, even if no heavy load or movement is expected? I am looking forward to your experiences and opinions!

However, it is a tall, narrow type of furniture with a relatively high center of gravity, especially when fully loaded. This can affect stability, particularly if it is moved or bumped. Wall fixing significantly improves tipping resistance and also complies with IKEA’s safety guidelines. Therefore, anyone wanting to be on the safe side should not skip using the brackets.

Or is the wall bracket absolutely necessary for safety reasons, even if no significant load or movement is expected? This is an important question. Safety should never be underestimated when it comes to furniture. An unevenly distributed load or a careless bump can easily cause imbalance. Without wall mounting, you have no protection against such situations. Even considering typical use cases, it is advisable to always use the wall bracket as a preventive safety measure.

We should have technical data on tipping resistance. You’re right, that would really be interesting! IKEA only provides general guidelines. But I think it’s also because no one wants to take any risks. Imagine a child climbing and the cabinet tipping over – no one could be held responsible for that. That’s why they simply insist on anchoring the units to the wall. Safety comes before style when assembling furniture!

Safety before coolness when assembling furniture!Haha, exactly that! 😄 I’d rather put in a bit of extra effort during assembly and be relaxed forever, than constantly worry about potential hazards. Wall mounting is really simple and gives a lot of peace of mind. I think it’s worth it and immediately feels more professional!
