KIFUSUHello everyone, I am currently planning to assemble my new IKEA Platsa furniture but have a fundamental question that is crucial for me during the assembly: Is it actually possible to put together IKEA Platsa furniture completely without a drill?
I understand that many IKEA cabinets and shelves often use screws that can be attached faster and more precisely with a drill, but I don’t have a cordless drill at home and would like to complete the assembly using as simple hand tools as possible. So, is there a way to make all the connections in this series without a power drill, using only a screwdriver and other hand tools? And if so, how reliable and stable is the result in everyday use? I would appreciate it if anyone could share their personal experience or tips for assembly that focus on avoiding power tools. Thanks in advance!

I assembled my PLATSA furniture without a drill. This might work in some cases, but it overlooks the necessary torque requirements. Screws in chipboard or MDF, like those used in PLATSA, often need significantly more force that a drill with torque control can provide. Using only manual strength may not always secure the screw optimally, which can affect long-term stability.
Assembly without a drill is possible, but the fittings and screws should be carefully checked to ensure they are tight. It is advisable to at least use a cordless screwdriver, as this considerably reduces effort and prevents damage to the material.

It is recommended to use at least a cordless screwdriver,I understand both sides. At first, I didn’t have a drill either and was skeptical, but it worked—albeit with a bit more effort. The important thing is not to rush and to take it step by step. You can feel by hand when it’s getting tight, which gives confidence.
However, if you want to finish quickly and ensure especially strong connections, it’s best to borrow a small cordless screwdriver. This way, everything can be assembled easily and securely, avoiding potential frustration.
To state the facts: IKEA PLATSA is assembled with screws that usually require precision tools like a cordless drill/driver to achieve the necessary torque and prevent material overload.
A drill or driver is not absolutely required, but in practice, it is almost indispensable if you want clean, durable connections. Hand tools can get the job done, but with greater effort, more time, and the risk of uneven assembly.
In summary: yes, PLATSA furniture can technically be assembled without a drill. However, for stability and efficient assembly, a tool with torque control (e.g., a cordless drill/driver) is strongly recommended.
