I have a question that probably concerns some of you who use Ikea Besta drawers: Is it possible to adjust the drawers of the BESTA system from Ikea yourself and also repair minor defects on your own?
I am particularly interested in whether the runners and drawer fronts can be precisely aligned to ensure smooth closing without sticking. Additionally, I would like to know if common issues such as sagging drawers, squeaking, or small breakages on the slides can be fixed easily, and what tools are ideally needed for these tasks.
Does anyone have practical experience or maybe even a good guide? Thank you in advance!

Hello innocent57!
Great question! I have personally adjusted and repaired my BESTA drawers several times – it’s really fun and quite simple! 💪
Most issues can be quickly fixed once you know where to start. Drawer fronts can be easily adjusted using small screws located at the back of the mounting brackets, and the runners are often easy to clean or realign.
A little tip: always keep a screwdriver, a small hammer, and some lubricant handy. This usually makes repairs go much more smoothly! Keep it up, you can do this!

As an addition: Ikea BESTA drawers usually feature a simple rail system with plastic or metal runners. These are designed to allow adjustments.
- The drawer front can be adjusted horizontally and vertically via screws on the drawer mechanism.
- Common issues such as squeaking rails are often caused by dust or dry guide elements and can be resolved by lubrication.
- For repairs, a standard tool set with a screwdriver and some oil for the rails is usually sufficient.
Spare parts are generally available directly from Ikea or through online retailers. For more extensive damage, replacing parts is recommended.

Hello innocent57,
I’m happy to explain how to adjust the drawers of the BESTA system:
1. First, pull the drawer out completely.
2. The front panel is usually attached to the mechanism on the sides with two or more screws. Loosen them carefully.
3. Now you can align the front panel horizontally (left-right) and vertically (up-down). There are small adjustment screws on the guide elements for this purpose.
4. After adjusting, tighten the screws again.
5. The rails on the cabinet can be cleaned or lightly lubricated to reduce strain on the rollers.
I recommend proceeding slowly and carefully to avoid warping the front panel. If there are any issues, readjust as needed.

Adjusting drawers yourself is not a problem. Loosen the screws at the back of the front panel, adjust, then tighten again. Clean and lubricate the slides. Done.I agree, that is the usual procedure.
I would like to add that you should be careful during assembly to avoid damaging the plastic guides. These are often the weak point and can break, which may require replacement.
