Hello everyone,

I’m considering using the IKEA Besta system as a TV cabinet and would like to know if its built-in cable management can be used effectively. I’m especially interested in how practical the cable management in Besta really is when connecting multiple devices like a TV, soundbar, game console, and other components.

I’ve seen that Besta modules have various openings and channels for cables, but it’s unclear to me whether this is enough for neat and tidy wiring or if additional work with cable ducts and holes in the furniture frame is usually necessary.

Does anyone know about the limitations or have tips on how to best use Besta as a TV unit with integrated cable management? Also, how about the stability and sufficient depth for the devices?

Thanks in advance for your experiences and opinions!

Regarding tools for cable openings: A hole saw with a diameter of 50 to 60 mm (2 to 2.4 inches) is usually sufficient when you need to pass larger cable bundles through. A jigsaw or rotary tool helps if you require elongated or more specialized openings.

Make sure to mark the back panel beforehand and cut carefully to avoid significantly compromising stability.

It is often more practical to make several small openings in different locations rather than one large one, as this distributes the stress.

The furniture remains stable as long as you do not damage load-bearing parts and place the holes thoughtfully.

I use Besta with additional cable openings and Velcro straps. Important: Always make the holes in the back panel where you won’t damage any shelves or other inserts. The cable management is solid; you just need to assist it a bit. Stability is hardly affected.

Conclusion: IKEA BESTA is well suited if you are willing to make some adjustments. The cable management is decent from the factory, but with simple modifications, you can significantly improve it.

Thank you for this assessment; it fits well with my experience. I will probably need to open the back panel and improve air circulation.

I would generally recommend not sealing it completely. Instead, for example, you could cut ventilation slots into the back panel or equip the back with ventilation grilles.

I like the idea of ventilation slots. Does anyone have experience whether these measures affect the noise from devices? I am a bit concerned that this might increase the sounds coming from the furniture, such as fans in the devices.

What about dust protection if you add many openings?
