TaugeHello everyone,
I am currently planning to install my new Ikea Metod kitchen and have an important question: Is it possible to securely fix Ikea Metod cabinets to a tiled floor?
The floor in my kitchen is made of glazed, quite hard tiles, and I want to avoid anchors breaking out or the cabinets becoming unstable over time. Are there special fastening techniques, suitable anchors, or types of screws that work particularly well? Or would it be better to build an additional substructure?
I would appreciate practical tips based on real experience or if anyone has installed cabinets on tiled floors and wants to share their recommendations. Thanks in advance!

Hello Tauge,
I’m happy to help you. In general, it is possible to attach Ikea Metod cabinets to tiled floors, but there are some important points you should keep in mind:
- Be sure to use suitable tile anchors or hollow wall plugs that are specifically designed for use in ceramic tiles.
- Drill very carefully, preferably with a drill bit made for tiles (glass or masonry drill bit, depending on the type of tile), to avoid damage.
- Make sure the anchors hold firmly and are not too loose.
- You might also consider securing the cabinets to the wall to reduce the load on the bottom.
If the base area will be subjected to especially heavy loads, an additional substructure, for example made of wood, on which you place the cabinets, could be useful.
If you can provide more specific information about the type of tiles or the substrate, I can offer you more detailed advice.

Hey Tauge,
I completely agree with GiRoyce and would say: tiles might not be the coziest surface for Ikea Metod cabinets, but with the right tools and a bit of patience, it works really well!
The key is, as mentioned, using the appropriate materials and working carefully – otherwise, you might end up with cracked tiles, and that’s definitely not fun. 😅
Tip: When drilling holes, use a drill stand or guide to prevent the drill from slipping easily. For fastening, screws with large heads or washers help to better distribute the load.
And hey, if you’re feeling a bit experimental – small floor leveling pads under the cabinets to protect the tiles are also a good idea!
Good luck, you’ll do great!

Hello Tauge,
I would like to answer your question in detail, as attaching Ikea Metod cabinets to tiled walls requires careful preparation and approach. There are several important points to consider:
- First, check what type of wall is behind the tiles. A solid concrete or brick wall provides very secure anchoring, while a drywall structure has different requirements.
- When drilling into the tiled surface itself, the critical point is the drilling process. It is advisable to:
- Use a tile or diamond drill bit to carefully and slowly make a pilot hole to avoid damaging the surface.
- Then, use an appropriate masonry or concrete drill bit to deepen the hole until you reach the wall behind the tile.
- For sealing and durability between the screw/anchor and the tile/wall, high-quality cavity anchors or special tile anchors are suitable to absorb tension and prevent damage.
- The loads on base kitchen cabinets should not be underestimated. Although the cabinets rest on the floor, the wall attachment, especially for wall-mounted cabinets, carries a significant amount of weight.
- For base cabinets, it is recommended to connect them to the floor using non-slip feet; Ikea does not necessarily require full floor fastening. If your tiled floor is very smooth or uneven, a subframe or base plate might be helpful to distribute the load more softly.
I recommend testing your drill and fastening materials first in an inconspicuous spot. At the same time, it would be helpful if you could provide measurements and the exact condition of your floor and wall, in case you have questions about the size or type of anchors.
Best regards!

Interesting approach from Surela, but honestly: is it really necessary to make everything so complicated?
Are they really? After all, base cabinets rest on the floor. Wall mounting is mainly essential for wall cabinets. I would argue that the load acting on tiles with the right anchor is overrated.
I have personally screwed Metod cabinets directly into tiles, using standard anchors, and everything has held firmly for years. Perhaps other factors play a bigger role here—such as drilling expertise or the correct tightening torque.
Sometimes, out of fear of problems, people simply do too much. A wooden subframe or other ready-to-install contraptions? Usually unnecessary and more of a cost and time trap.

Hello,
to bring some structure to the discussion here, I’ll summarize:
1. In general, it is possible to mount Ikea Metod cabinets on tiled floors, provided that the fixing is not only secured in the tile material but that the wall behind the tiles is sufficiently load-bearing.
2. The choice of anchors is important. For tiles, special tile anchors or hollow wall anchors are suitable, which do not overly stress the material.
3. Drilling should be done slowly and carefully with the appropriate drill bits (glass drill bits for tiles and, depending on the wall type, masonry or concrete drill bits for the substrate).
4. An additional substructure is only necessary if the substrate is uneven or not sufficiently load-bearing.
5. For Ikea Metod base cabinets, floor stability alone is often sufficient—the wall fixing mainly serves for stabilization and for wall-mounted cabinets.
If you like, I can also suggest a brief guide on the best drilling procedure if there is interest.
Please share your floor and wall materials so I can prepare a step-by-step guide if needed.
