Hi,
I found this wonderful forum through a search engine.

I have a question and would like to tile over the old tiles in my bathroom with new ones.
Is it really that simple, and if so, what should I keep in mind?

Thank you very much for your information.

Hello Regina,

I would chisel out the old tiles and then sand the floor. After that, level the floor and install new tiles. Everything else is useless. This way, you'll get a new and even floor.

Hi,
I see it the same way. It’s better to do the work properly than to deliver a botched job. If it’s not done correctly, it will mean double the work.

Hi,
My father tried this once as well, but it didn’t work out. It’s not just about covering the tiles because there are additional tasks involved. For example, sanding down the doors at the bottom, the fittings no longer matched, and so on. So, in the end, the old tiles had to be removed and new ones installed.

I actually think Regina’s idea is not bad. It’s simply more cost-effective than removing the old tiles, leveling everything, and retiling. It’s all a matter of price, and first, you need to consider how much money is available.

Hello,

I have some personal experience with this. Some time ago, I did this in my mother’s rental apartment. I tiled over existing tiles. However, the original tiles were still intact and very sturdy. My mother and I are satisfied with the result.
