Hello everyone, I am currently working on remodeling my IKEA Besta drawers and am considering whether I can customize them with suitable inserts. My specific question is: Are there inserts that fit the Besta drawers exactly and can be arranged flexibly or even adjusted by oneself to better organize the interior? It is especially important to me whether these inserts truly fit precisely, or if there are usually issues with dimensions or securing them in place. Does anyone have experience with custom or modular solutions for Besta drawers? I am not looking for general tips on drawer inserts, but specifically for the IKEA Besta series.

Hello Tanno,

I would like to add to the discussion about your question, as there are some technical details in designing Besta drawers with inserts that are often overlooked:

- Besta drawers have varying sidewall thicknesses and guide rails. These significantly affect the usable internal width of the drawers.
- The depth of the drawers can vary between approximately 40, 60, and 80 cm (16, 24, and 31.5 inches); therefore, inserts need to be adaptable accordingly. There is no one-size-fits-all solution for all sizes.
- For optimal design, I recommend using modular elements with grid spacing of, for example, 3 cm (1.2 inches). This way, you can create variable compartments inside depending on your needs.
- For attachment, clamp or plug-in systems that don’t require screw holes are advisable – this makes adjustments easier and prevents damage.
- Pay attention to the material thickness of the inserts, because if the material is too thick, the available space shrinks considerably and the drawer may jam.

Finally: if you are handy, you can create a custom insert from MDF or thin plywood with tailor-made dividers and finish it with paint. Although it is more work, this ensures a perfect fit and long-lasting use.

If you’d like, I can also share tips on measuring tools and fabrication steps.

In short: Yes, you can. Take precise measurements of the Besta drawers, look for modular inserts with similar internal dimensions, and check the fit before purchasing. Adjustments are usually necessary but not a major issue.
