Hello everyone, I am currently working on remodeling my IKEA Besta drawers and am considering whether I can customize them with suitable inserts. My specific question is: Are there inserts that fit the Besta drawers exactly and can be arranged flexibly or even adjusted by oneself to better organize the interior? It is especially important to me whether these inserts truly fit precisely, or if there are usually issues with dimensions or securing them in place. Does anyone have experience with custom or modular solutions for Besta drawers? I am not looking for general tips on drawer inserts, but specifically for the IKEA Besta series.

I can completely understand your question, Tanno. I had a similar situation when I wanted to better organize the Besta drawers. In my experience, IKEA offers some dividers, but they are often quite simple and don’t provide much flexibility.

That’s why many people turn to third-party suppliers who offer modular inserts in various sizes. However, these don’t always fit perfectly without some modification—especially because the internal dimensions of the Besta drawers can vary depending on the model (depth and width).

I would recommend measuring the exact internal dimensions before purchasing and, if necessary, adjusting the inserts yourself. Adjustments can be done quite well using thin plastic strips or wooden slats, for example.

Sometimes it’s a process: you try them out, notice what’s missing, and then make changes step by step. I found that careful measuring and creative adjustments were more important than blindly buying everything ready-made.

Hey Tanno, you’re bringing up a really interesting topic! 😊 I’ve also done some experimenting with my Besta drawers, and the combination of IKEA inserts and flexible organizers from other manufacturers works quite well for me. It’s really important to know the exact measurements and leave a little extra space, otherwise the inserts can get stuck or the drawer might not close properly.

If you take a more relaxed approach, using these inserts can be a lot of fun – suddenly, “keeping things tidy” doesn’t feel like a chore anymore, but more like a small project. 😄

My advice: start with simple dividers and see what works best for you before investing in expensive complete sets. Good luck!

Hello Tanno,

I would like to give you a structured response that can help you with your planning.

1. Measure dimensions precisely: It is important to measure the internal dimensions of the Besta drawers exactly, as different Besta series have varying depths and heights.

2. IKEA inserts: IKEA offers some inserts for drawers, but these are often not specific to Besta and come in universal sizes. They usually fit with only minimal clearance.

3. Third-party alternatives: There are numerous modular inserts made of plastic or wood designed for office organization or kitchens. These often have grid dimensions based on standard sizes. They do not always fit perfectly, but you can use them with minor adjustments.

4. Flexibility with dividers: A commonly used solution is adjustable dividers or flexible inserts that you can set in length and width to better subdivide the drawer.

5. Avoid mistakes: Make sure the inserts do not completely block the full depth, so the drawer still closes properly.

Conclusion: It is possible to customize Besta drawers with suitable inserts, but it requires precise measurement, selecting the right products, and possibly some minor modifications.

That is definitely true. I had the problem that my insert construction was too deep, and the drawer became difficult to close. After adjusting to a slightly shallower depth, it fit well.

Additionally, I would recommend being cautious with the material thickness. Some inserts are quite thick, which reduces the internal dimensions and can limit customization options.

In addition to the previous posts, I would like to address compatibility and build quality.

- The IKEA Besta series has varying internal dimensions due to different designs. Therefore, using identical inserts without any adjustments is hardly possible.
- It is advisable to choose inserts that are modular, allowing individual components to be replaced or repositioned.
- When securing the inserts, make sure they do not shift, for example by using non-slip mats or Velcro dots.
- Prefabricated systems made of wood or plastic often provide a good compromise between precise fit and flexibility.

These points are crucial to optimally organize the inside of the drawer without causing any functional limitations.
