Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to update my furniture with IKEA pieces and have specifically set my sights on the Malm dressers. My question is: Is it easy to combine Malm dressers with other IKEA series, such as the Kallax shelving unit or the Hemnes line, without significant visual or functional issues? I want to make sure the combination looks harmonious and that any differences in dimensions, colors, or materials don’t cause unexpected problems.
Does anyone have experience with this or can provide more detailed advice on what to watch out for when mixing Malm with other series?

A practical tip: If you really want to combine Malm and Hemnes, it’s worth checking sample pieces or at least individual front panels in the respective color in your living space and observing them under different lighting conditions before purchasing.
This way, you can better judge how well the shades harmonize or differ, which can sometimes be difficult to determine from photos or catalogs.
Also, arranging the furniture in advance, for example in the IKEA planner or using room measurements, helps with the final spatial effect.

Has anyone had direct experience with this?To add to that: I had the combination of Malm (white) with Hemnes (white stained) in the guest room. The difference was clearly noticeable to the touch: Hemnes felt warmer, while Malm was somewhat cooler and smoother. In terms of color, the contrast is quite visible in daylight, especially when the furniture pieces are placed side by side.
I recommend not placing the two series directly next to each other, but rather leaving some space between them or visually linking them with rugs or accessories.
Additionally, Hemnes offers a wider range of wood tones (including darker options) that might match Malm’s black-brown better if you are considering darker furniture.
If you choose to combine Malm and Hemnes, it might be useful to consider how you want to design your space: Do you prefer clarity and minimalism, or are you aiming for a cozy atmosphere inspired by the natural charm of wood?
The answer to this can make it much easier to decide how to best mix the series so that you feel comfortable in the long run.
Sometimes it also helps to stick to a color scheme, for example white, gray, or natural tones as a guide to bring the different furniture pieces together.
